Another Longterm Railroad Carloading Chart

At least I'm convinced that the US "real" economy has been in decline since 1999. The surge in intermodal was largely imports financed with deficit financing. Remind me again who was in charge during this time?

  1. Cooked charts? Intermodal so neatly portrays the 2003-7 spending spree as we all mortgaged our homes to buy lawn furniture. What's it say abt. the future if you draw trend line through these data -- consumer out of extravaganza mode for a long while but gets back on trend? Where does mfg. end up? Any trend left there?
